Ignorance, a New Year’s resolution and deep regret

Today I sit on my leather chair with my iPad in it’s case, redesigning my We Rule realms and tweeting. But not blogging. Remember months ago when I promised to try and blog every week? Yea, about that. Despite having a BlackBerry, and loads of free time I neglect to blog. Despite the fifty-plus thousand visitors my blog has received, I neglected all of you. I’m sorry. My life has kinda been different lately. It’s like being thrown into a washing machine and being set to tumble for a few hours. That’s what it’s like right now. But I’m not writing this for sympathy, I’m writing this as an apology and a promise. My New Year’s resolution is to blog more. But not just churn out post after post of non-sense, but to dig deeper and capture the world around me. To take more pictures, and to share them with you. And I hope you will keep on coming back.

The Ugg Epidemic

Uggs were the thing go buy for women in 2008. I remember it like it was yesterday: if you had a pair of Uggs you were a Goddess. Being a guy, I never cared but somethings changed. I want a pair.

Sheepskin boots weren’t originally worn by women, but by men back then. Today, women wear them during the cold winter months. But it’s overlooked that men wear them too, just not as often. I have never seen a guy wearing Uggs before. Never. It could be wear I live and that not many guys around here are trendy. Or it could be the fact that everybody thinks that Uggs are gay. Even my own family has forbidden me to buy a pair. Here’s where this entry becomes serious. I. Don’t. Care.

When the iPhone was released, mostly men bought it. Now it’s a unisex device. Same with Android, and Blackberry. When scarves became popular, mostly women wore them and now they too are unisex. Everything today is unisex! And that’s awesome. Uggs are made for both men and women, yet here’s the interesting part: good luck finiding them, guys.

I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of Uggs for myself for the longest time and haven’t found them. Not a single pair. I want them in the grey so they will look a bit more masculine, and I haven’t seen one. Ever. Store managers say they don’t carry them and some even say they don’t make them! Newsflash: they do. The only way or me to buy them is online: good luck.

So a message to everone: Uggs are not gay. They can be worn by everone, from toddlers to both men and women. I am still searching for a mens Short pair in grey. When I find them, I’m going to buy them. I’m going to wear them. I’m not going to care what everyone thinks. Because, as you should know: I dont care what others think. Because it’s me. I am my own masterpiece.

A difficult decision on a complex matter

Did you know that the average person keeps their current phone longer than they did in years past? Didn't make much sense to me either. So far I've bought a new phone every year for the past four years. My latest decision could prove to be my most difficult: what smartphone should I pick? Oh yes, it's a conundrum. I've had my HTC Magic+ since November of last year and let's just say this past year has been filled with agonizing pain. Oh yes, pain. From slow apps, to ugly apps, to a keyboard that is words behind the speed of my typing and even one of the worst camera's I have ever used this phone is the most nasty thing you can buy. I've been through two Magic's this past year due to a dust issue and technically I'm not allowed to upgrade to a new one until November of 2011. But I'm special. The awesome people at the Roger's Office of President are letting me upgrade right now. Whatever one I want. It's mine. The problem? I don't know what I want, though I've already made my decision.

It was between the Samsung Captivate, Blackberry Torch and the iPhone 4. Originally I put an order in for the Captivate. It just was perfect: gorgeous screen, quick processor, and it will get the latest Android OS in early 2011. But I cancelled my order on one front: patience. I don't have the time to wait until 2011 to get an update that's ready now. I live on the edge of technology. New things happen, I know about them. I follow multiple blogs all day long, and I research things until the death of them (hey Kin). I don't want to have to wait for updates to come to my phone. I want to have them as soon as they're made, and with Google's Android that just doesn't happen. So what phone did I choose instead? It'll surprise you. The Blackberry Torch.

Oh yes, the Torch. A fine phone, isn't it? It's got an awesome hardware keyboard, and a soft keyboard as well. It's got a five megapixel camera (with a flash) and it does awesome multitasking. What's wrong with it? The apps suck, and it only has a 620Mhz processor. But I'm going to deal with that. Why, you may ask would I choose a phone that is less powerful that the Captivate when I can very well get the Captivate? Because my phone right now has an even slower processor, and the screen is the same as the one I have now on my Magic. But I'm going to get updates as soon as they are made, and that's just awesome. Yet if I don't like it, what will I do then?

The iPhone 4. Believe it or not, it's the last. I hate Apple with a passion. Yet I love them too. They haven't done anything new lately. Nothing innovative. Nothing 'wow'. They've left their desktops and laptops behind, and made their mobile offerings outclass them. I hate that. I loathe that. What's up with that Steven? Even the iPhone 4 doesn't do anything new. Sure it has a front-facing camera, but it's useless! Honestly, who else has an iPhone 4, on Wifi at the same time as you do and wants to video chat? Slim to none I dare say.

So that's why I'm buying the Torch. It'll be here on Wednesday of next week. I'm ecstatic. I cannot wait. I don't think you should wait either. The Blackberry Torch is just an awesome phone, and when I review it and post it here I hope you'll see that too.
